2023 Domaine Gadais Père et Fils Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie La Grande Réserve "Des Moulins" 0.75 Ltr. Blanc
picture of

Light, almost white color. Soft aromas of citrus, melon and white flowers. Nice mineral undertone with impressions of wet lime and a slightly pungent minuscule pearl. Due to its 'Sur Lie' maturation, it remains pleasantly creamy in the mouth and displays a surprising complexity and slight saltiness. Qualitative Muscadet like this is still the absolute top in combination with all kinds of goodies from the sea. It makes it one of the most unique wines in France.

Its pronounced mineral and slightly salty character make it the ideal partner for fine fish dishes and more specifically with crustaceans and shellfish.

climate

An Atlantic-influenced maritime, mild, climate with relatively little rainfall and regular winds from the Atlantic. In summer it is usually warm and sunny. The higher vineyards provide ideal ventilation.

soil

Vineyards consisting of 3 different soils. Sandy soils with pebbles, sandy soils with granite (Gneiss) and sandy soils with more clay and loam. The vineyards for this wine are located on the hilltops of the appellation, where the windmills are also located. This results in a very complete style of Muscadet.

vinification

Grape variety: Melon de Bourgogne (Muscadet). Melon was originally grown in Burgundy where it was seen as inferior. It was introduced to Nantes because of its high resistance to cold. Cold fermentation for at least 2 weeks after which the wine rests on its Lie for at least 8 months. This is to extract more flavor and achieve a creamier style.
